[The Skull] [Red & White Blood Cells] [The Rib Cage]

Skeletal System

Bones have two purposes.
1.  Some like your backbone help to keep you standing straight, and not like a puddle of jello on the ground.
2.  Also, bones are like our shells that help protect our delicate insides.  If we didn’t have bones we would be like a slug.  It would be pretty awkward.

Our face has 14 bones and our hands have 27 bones.  Can you believe that our femur is 1 fourth our height?   Yeah, neither can I!

It would seem that adults have more bones than children but they don’t.  Children have 300 bones and adults have 207 bones.  I have one more pretty interesting fact and then you can visit my friends, Robby the Ribcage, Skully the Skull, and Reddy and Whitey the blood cells.  Did you know that a giraffe and a human have the same amount of bones in their neck?  Really amazing, huh?  Just click on my friends to learn more about the skeletal system.
